PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Karlis Vizulis of Performance Systematix Inc. Captures Ernst & Young West Michigan Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award
Grand Rapids, Mich. - June 28, 2004 - Karlis Vizulis, president of Performance Systematix Inc. (PSI) was honored recently as the Ernst & Young West Michigan Entrepreneur Of The Year for manufacturing excellence. Vizulis was one of 11 West Michigan entrepreneurs who were recognized for their companies' outstanding achievements in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. "My journey started in 1984 when I left Gelman Sciences to start Performance Systematix," Vizulis said. "Through the years I've seen a lot of struggle, pain, excitement, opportunity and hope. Twenty years later the spirit to create is as strong as it was in the beginning." PSI integrates hydrophobic, microporous membranes into plastic components used in biotech and laboratory analysis products, medical filters and packaging applications. The company specializes in custom solutions and is able to work with difficult media and substrates. While PSI may not be a common household name, the company's patented Circumvent® and Airfoil® vented liner systems provide leak-proof seals for many common household items such as bleach, accelerated hydrogen peroxide, laundry detergents, and garden fertilizers. Products like these helped PSI achieve sales of more than $8 million in 2003. The company has consistently attained growth rates of 12 percent or better over the past 20 years. Privately held, PSI reinvests its profits in its people, technology, machinery and infrastructure. "I've been very fortunate," Vizulis said. "I've had more opportunities than I'd ever dreamed possible. These opportunities were the result of a lot of hard work and dedicated employees. We have a great team and this award is a wonderful recognition of our company's collective effort." Vizulis is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2004 national program. Winners in several national categories and overall national E&Y Entrepreneur Of The Year will be announced at the annual awards in Palm Springs, Calif., in November. The national winner will go on to compete in the world event held in Monte Carlo. The Entrepreneur of the Year awards program recognizes entrepreneurs through regional, national and global award programs in more than 100 cities and 35 countries. It is produced by professional services firm Ernst & Young LLP, and is nationally sponsored by Microsoft and the Kauffman Foundation.
